Liverpool Biennial, 2012
Liverpool, 15th September - 25th November 2012
We were commissioned by the 2012 Liverpool Bienniel to work with curators to design the layout of the City States exhibition being staged in the disused Royal Mail sorting office building in the centre of the city.
20 international cities sent work by selected resident artists curated in response to the Bienniel 2012's theme of hospitality.
Our role was to work very closely with the Bienniel curators to review and determine the spatial requirements of each city's exhibits, and design the physical and sequence of areas that form the overall exhibition.
Painted yellow floor markings remaining from the sorting office's operational days were used to organise the city areas and guide people around the huge floor through each city's area. Built additions were timber stud work partitions, and much of the design work was aimed at keeping the amount required to a minimum.
