An unusual and challenging commission from a Feldenkrais practitioner for a set of stackable chairs with adjustable height seats and backs.

The Feldenkrais Method is a movement method that aims to help people move and sit with more comfort and less pain. It is taught both in class form and in individual lessons. Some of the lessons are taught on chairs.

The three legged design of the chair allows the sitter normally or to face away from the practitioner and rest their arms whilst receiving treatment. The adjustable seat height and back rest ensure different people can sit comfortably with their limbs in the required alignments for the particular therapies.

The chair is made from solid Ash with 5 adjustable knobs to adjust the height of the seat and back. The chair seat can be raised from 420mm to 550mm height, and the back rest can raise from 800mm to 1m. A removable ‘shelf’ can be slotted to the back rest of the chair for particular exercises.

As this chair was intended for both group Feldenkrais sessions and individual lessons we designed it to stack in a spiral thus saving floor space in the practitioner’s studio.
